Off-Grid Islands
The off-grid islands offer a different perspective and are well-placed to demonstrate the opportunities of low-carbon technologies. There are already several excellent decarbonising focused projects completed or underway within these communities and all the off-grid islands were part of the Clean Energy for EU Islands Initiative.
These ‘Off-Grid’ communities include the Isles of Eigg, Canna, Muck, Rum (known as the Small Isles), and Fair Isle and Foula, both off the coast of Shetland.
CNI will be offering these communities support in the following areas:
- Access to a project officer to assist with developing climate action plans or with progressing projects that have already been identified as a priority.
- Access to the wider CES team and our technical expertise and experience of engaging with island communities.
- The opportunity to highlight areas where the community needs support and resources to take forward their own community plans and assistance with leveraging in the funds to do so.
- A platform to show and demonstrate the good work that has already been achieved and the struggles and successes along the way.

Current Progress
At this moment initial conversations are taking place between CES and representatives from the Off-Grid communities. We look forward to sharing more details on their involvement with the project in the near future.
